The world’s largest pumpkin pie was made in New Bremen, Ohio, at the New Bremen Pumpkinfest. It was created on September 25, 2010. The pie consisted of 1,212 pounds of canned pumpkin, 109 gallons of evaporated milk, 2,796 eggs, 7 pounds of salt, 14.5 pounds of cinnamon, and 525 pounds of sugar. The final pie weighed 3,699 pounds and measured 20 feet in diameter!
Mmmm…pumpkin pie! The first recipes for pumpkin pie date back to the 1700’s in England but they didn’t quite have the recipe down. They would stuff the pumpkin with apples, spices, and sugar and bake the pumpkin whole. Pumpkin pie didn’t appear in American cookbooks until the early 1800’s and shortly became a Thanksgiving staple shortly after.
Speaking of pumpkins, the “Greatest free show on earth” starts this Wednesday in Circleville, OH. The Circleville Pumpkin Show runs October 16-19 and is the sixth largest festival in the U.S. with an annual attendance of 300,000. If you love pumpkin this is the place to be. They have a giant pumpkin weigh in and any pumpkin food you can imagine…such as, pumpkin pies, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin burgers, pumpkin taffy, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin cake, pumpkin soups, pumpkin waffles, pumpkin cream puffs, pumpkin fudge, pumpkin ice cream, and pumpkin milkshakes!
