Are you in the mood for Fall and need a protein boost for muscle growth? This morning I tried a recipe I’ve had on my Pinterest board for a while, but finally got around to mixing it up.
The past few months I’ve switched from purely running in the morning to a weight training regimen. My goal has been to bulk up and get lean. How do you think it’s been working so far?
Because I know the value of starting small and doing something you can maintain I’ve been using the StrongLifts 5×5 program which has an iPhone app. I plan on writing something up as to why it works on my behavior change blog Why Do I Fail (http://whydoifail.com), but that blog is just getting started and only has a few posts.
Since I’ve been trying to bulk up and put on some muscle I’ve finally decided to mix in some protein shakes with my workouts and thought a pumpkin protein shake would be the perfect drink to get started. This recipe is also super simple. It took me about 15 minutes to get everything out, make it and have it in a glass.
The hardest part is making sure you have some of the ingredients or make sure you add them to your grocery list in advance. The ingredients I used are below. The original recipe I started with listed greek yogurt as optional, but I wanted to pack in as much protein as possible and worry about the total calories later. The point is to experiment to see if it even tastes good and then if you make it again try to improve upon the calories. If it tastes like crap you’ll never eat it.
6 oz unsweetened almond milk
And here’s the obligatory image of my shake to show you what it really looks like without fancy photography:
